Ingredients

Cookie Crumb Layer
  • 36 cookies Chocolate sandwich cookies, such as Oreos
  • 5 tablespoons Unsalted butter, melted
Creamy Filling
  • 2 packages, 3.9 ounces each Instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 3 cups Cold whole milk
  • 8 ounces Cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup Powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 8 ounces Whipped topping, thawed
Decoration
  • 12-18 pieces Gummy worms

Method

Step-by-Step
  1. Crush the chocolate sandwich cookies into fine crumbs, reserving about 1 cup for the topping. Stir the remaining crumbs with melted butter, then press them into the bottom of a 9x13-inch dish or divide them between individual cups.
  2. Whisk the instant pudding mix with cold milk for about 2 minutes, or until thickened. Let it stand for 5 minutes so the pudding reaches a spoonable consistency.
  3. Beat the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth and creamy. Fold in the whipped topping, then gently fold in the prepared chocolate pudding until no pale streaks remain.
  4. Spoon the filling over the cookie crust and smooth the surface with a spatula. Sprinkle the reserved cookie crumbs over the top, covering the filling evenly.
  5. Tuck gummy worms into the crumb topping, placing a few partly underneath the crumbs for a garden effect. Cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.

Notes

For clean slices, chill the cake overnight and use a sharp knife warmed under hot water and dried before each cut. Keep refrigerated and add extra gummy worms shortly before serving for the freshest texture.
