Total Time 7 minutes
Servings: 1 servings

Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 4 tablespoons All-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons Granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • 3 tablespoons Milk
  • 2 tablespoons Neutral oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon Vanilla extract
Optional Add-Ins
  • 1 tablespoon Semi-sweet chocolate chips
Optional Toppings
  • as desired Vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, powdered sugar, or berries

Method

Step-by-Step
  1. Choose a microwave-safe mug that holds at least 10 ounces. Add the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt, then stir until the dry ingredients are evenly combined.
  2. Pour in the milk, oil, and vanilla extract. Stir from the bottom and around the sides until no dry pockets remain, then fold in the chocolate chips if using.
  3. Microwave the mug on high for 70 to 90 seconds, depending on the strength of your microwave. Stop when the top looks puffed and mostly set, with a little softness in the middle.
  4. Let the cake rest in the mug for 1 to 2 minutes because the center continues cooking from the retained heat. Serve warm with your choice of topping.

Notes

Use a wide mug for more even cooking and do not fill it more than halfway. Microwave power varies, so begin checking at 70 seconds to avoid a dry cake. Enjoy immediately for the best texture.
