Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 large Ripe Hass avocados
  • 1/2 small onion Small white or red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 small Jalapeño, seeded and finely minced
  • 1 small clove Garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon Kosher salt
Optional Ingredients
  • 1/2 tomato Ripe tomato, seeded and finely chopped
  • 1 pinch Ground cumin or freshly ground black pepper

Method

Step-by-Step
  1. Cut the avocados in half lengthwise, remove the pits, and scoop the flesh into a medium bowl.
  2. For especially even flavor, first mash the onion, jalapeño, garlic, cilantro, and salt together in the bowl. Add the avocado and lime juice, then mash with a fork until mostly smooth with some small chunks remaining.
  3. Fold in the seeded, finely chopped tomato if using. Taste and adjust with more salt, lime juice, or jalapeño as needed.
  4. Serve immediately with tortilla chips, tacos, grilled meats, or vegetables.

Notes

Choose avocados that yield gently to pressure but are not soft, bruised, or brown inside. Add lime juice gradually because too much can overpower the avocado. If you must hold the guacamole briefly, press plastic wrap directly onto its surface, although it is best served fresh.
